St Colmbs Cathedral was built in 1633 and stands within the famous “Walls of Derry”. Derry’s oldest building is a fine example of “Planters Gothic” and has become a landmark building.
Main Problem and Requirements:
External stonework required extensive renovation. Remmers were chosen as a specialist supplier of stone repair materials and Restoration Mortar was used to replicate ornate mouldings and repair badly damaged stonework whilst reducing the need for replacement stone. The Restoration Mortar was colour matched to the varying stone types, requiring many samples prior to the commencement of the works. Protection was provided to the stone by a hydrophobic impregnation and areas of internal stonework were treated with KSE100, a stone consolidant to strengthen the stone limiting costly replacement.Brief Description
As part of its repair in 2011 Mullarkey Pedersen Architects chose Remmers products for repair / strengthening and protection of stonework .
