Impregnation Sealers
Thanks to hydrophobizing impregnation, the capillary water absorption of a façade through rain and splashwater is significantly reduced. The water repelling, hydrophobic treatment is therefore a sensible damage-preventing and/or supplementary measure.
Cleaning Chemicals
For everyday cleaning chemicals, it is important they work effectively and efficiently because so much time is spent using them. You want to get the job done right the first time.
Heavy Duty Cleaning
When common cleaning chemicals just don't cut it, you move onto the heavy duty chemicals. These include acid cleaners and heavy duty degreasers. Stubborn carbon stains that have accumulated over hundreds of years need an extra kick to be removed and expose the beautiful masonry underneath.
Specialised Chemicals
Not every problem has a simple solution. Sometimes these problems need a more in-depth analysis. We love to be challenged with problems and finding new solutions to specialised problems. Don't be afraid to ask us questions.
It is first necessary to identify all the building materials involved such as granites (polished/unpolished; sandstones (red, cream and buff); brick, terracotta and brick-type tiles; calcited stones (including Portland, BATH, limestone, marble and slates); glass; PVC; aluminium; iron work and paint protected surfaces.
The degree and type of soiling present needs consideration. Heavily soiled surfaces, particularly those with carbon black deposits, may need more detailed or repeated degreasing.
It is then necessary to identify the names of the products suitable for use in each specific case, also the alternative techniques which can be used, with considerations for time and efficiency, costs, environmental requirements and safety.
It is important that operatives are adequately trained and experienced; familiar with correct procedures and have correct equipment on site including first aid materials.
When selecting the techniques and appropriate Intachem Solutions, verify that the chemicals being used will not adversely affect other materials nearby or underneath. Washed down debris disposal must comply with local authorities requirements i.e., the debris from paint removal operations may need containment, polished granite and glass needs suitable protection, good ventilation is essential and in normal external use the Intachem range of chemicals have been tested behind close sheeted scaffolding to ensure that no hazards arise from dangerous fumes.
Chemicals on any site should be the responsibility of some designated person with respect to safe storage and handling. Any spillages should be dealt with immediately, nobody should be permitted near to or underneath any areas being cleaned. At the end of each day the area, scaffolding boards, equipment etc., should be washed down.
The general principle behind acidic cleaning is always the same: the acidic components penetrate or infiltrate the dirt crust from behind causing it to dissolve. The surfactants allow the surface to be moistened, encapsulate the dirt and allow it to be washed off. Remmers BFA inhibitors work differently and are easy to use. It serves to remove all types of biological contamination and acts as a protective layer to prevent more dirt collecting.
The same rule applies to every cleaning process: ‘As intensively as necessary, but as gently as possible.’ Since both the contaminated substrate and the type and extent of the pollution can vary enormously, it is often very challenging to recommend the right product. It is therefore always recommended to carry out a test area in advance.
